About Warren
Warren’s reading style is natural, crystal-clear, and earnest; in timbre it sounds a little like his cello.
Wisconsin has been his home since college, but Warren grew up just outside Philadelphia, with English as his first language, bits of his parents’ Yiddish, and four years of high school German. He and his siblings were surrounded by music and musicals that provided material for living-room performances from musical theatre (think Gilbert & Sullivan, West Side Story), Tom Lehrer, and Mad Magazine song parodies.
He had a long career as a high school orchestra teacher and inspired many to appreciate music; several of his students have become music teachers themselves. He is serious about Scrabble and never misses Will Shortz’s NPR Sunday morning word puzzle. He does copy-editing and proofing for fun. He makes time for an occasional community theater role. He eagerly greets his beloved New Yorker magazine and keeps running lists of his favorite reads: early-to-mid 20th-century American novels; history, social justice, deep dives into music, nature, and humor. Warren prefers to read his books in hand-held form, but has been reading aloud to his family for decades. His wife Terry, a former bookseller and used bookstore owner, and a long-time audiobook fan, has long recognized the qualities of a great audiobook narrator in Warren; she has all the while urged him to record.
Reading and listening have always been at the core of Warren’s life. He understands both language and sound. Although at times socially shy, he feels real human connection when reading aloud. Warren’s voice is a fresh contribution to narration.
